Firewood is produced from well seasoned hardwood, cut and split into suitable lengths for open fires, wood burning stoves and log boilers (biomass).fires and wood burning stoves. Most wood burning stoves will under-perform unless you use good quality dry logs.
In order to get the best from your logs, they need to be as dry as possible prior to burning. We would therefore suggest you keep your firewood under cover in a dry airy environment. It is beneficial if you can store some logs, ready for use, a few days before burning.
This non-fossil fuel is locally sourced thereby helping to reduce the carbon footprint. Unlike fossil fuel wood which is a renewable form of energy.
Store the wood Please view our section on seasoning firewood as well. Our wood will be correctly seasoned by being stored cut, split & exposed to sun & wind so that the wood can be dried out.
Storing Your Wood Outside Your firewood is best stacked outside where the air can circulate and on a dry surface but off the ground so as not to absorb moisture. Pallets and treated fence posts make suitable foundations. The wood needs to be covered on top. Although the sides can be left open it would be wise to cover the wind side to prevent the rain getting in
If you are storing it inside or in a garage or shed, where possible, open a window or when safe to do so open the windows and doors to let the air circulate around the logs.
You might prefer to buy a ready made log shed - these are available in wood or metal finish & in a variety of sizes.
